On Sept. 6, six Colorado residents filed a lawsuit in the Denver City and County District Court to disqualify former President Donald Trump from running for reelection in 2024 under Section 3 of the Fourteenth Amendment. The petitioners are seeking to prevent Trump from appearing as a candidate on the 2024 Republican presidential primary ballot and “any future election ballot.”

According to the filing, the petitioners brought the suit against Trump to “protect the rights of Republican and Independent voters to fully participate in the upcoming primary election by ensuring that votes cast will be for those constitutionally qualified to hold office.”
