Lawfare No Bull: Day Two of the Jan. 6 Committee Hearings

Today on Lawfare No Bull: On June 13, the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the Capitol held its second public hearing. This hearing focused on former President Trump’s actions and statements on election night in 2020 and in the months leading up to the attack on Jan. 6. As Committee Chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson said in his opening statement, this hearing told the story of “how Donald Trump lost an election and knew he lost an election” and “decided to wage an attack on our democracy” and the American people and, in doing so, “lit the fuse that led to the horrific violence of January 6th.” The committee heard live testimony from Chris Stirewalt, a former political editor at Fox News; Benjamin Ginsberg, a Republican election lawyer; Al Schmidt, a former Philadelphia city commissioner; and BJ Pak, a former U.S. attorney. They played recorded testimony from Bill Stepien, former Trump campaign manager, who was supposed to testify in person but had to cancel last minute due to a family emergency. The committee also played several videos of former Attorney General Bill Barr’s recorded testimony.
