Today on Lawfare No Bull: On June 9, the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the United States Capitol—better known as the Jan. 6 committee—held its first public hearing. This hearing focused on detailing the events of the Capitol riot, and laying the groundwork for the committee’s case that the events of Jan. 6 were the culmination of what Committee Chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson called “a sprawling, multi-step conspiracy aimed at overturning the presidential election.” The committee also heard testimony from Nick Quested, a documentarian who had embedded with the Proud Boys, and Caroline Edwards, a Capitol police officer who was one of the first to face the rioters.
