Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. ET: The Atlantic Council’s Africa Center and the Policy Center for the New South hosted an event to highlight Sarah Daly and Abdelhak Bassou’s new report entitled “Russia’ influence in Africa, a security perspective.” The authors sat down with Chris Condon, journalist at Bloomberg News, to discuss Russia-Africa relations and subsequent implications on the geopolitical stage. Following their discussion, Maj. Gen. Kenneth P. Ekman, director of strategy, engagement, and programs at U.S. Africa Command, provided keynote remarks. The event also featured an expert panel discussion. Panelists included: Nataliya Bugayova, Russia fellow at the Institute for the Study of War; Ovigwe Eguegu, policy analyst at Development Reimagined; Michael Shurkin, senior fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Africa Center; and Petr Tuma, senior fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Europe Center. Condon will also moderate the panel discussion.

Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. ET: The Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society hosted a live event to analyze oral arguments before the Supreme Court in Gonzales v. Google moderated by Kate Klonick, professor at St. John’s University School of Law. Panelists included: Mary Anne Franks, professor at the University of Miami School of Law; Mike Goodwin, former counsel at Wikimedia Foundation and Electronic Frontier Foundation; James Grimmelmann, professor at Cornell Law School; Gus Hurwitz, professor at Nebraska Law School; Jeff Kosseff, professor of law at the U.S. Naval Academy; Emma Llanso, director of the Free Expression Project at the Center for Democracy and Technology; Alan Rozenshtein, senior editor at Lawfare; Eugene Volokh, professor at UCLA Law School; Benjamin Wittes, editor in chief at Lawfare; and Jonathan Zittrain, professor at Harvard Law School.  

Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. ET: The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) hosted a discussion about what to watch for in the upcoming Nigerian general elections. The discussion featured remarks from Mvemba Phezo Dizolele, CSIS senior fellow; Yemi Adamolekun, executive director of Enough is Enough Nigeria; and Idayat Hassan, director of the Centre for Democracy and Development.

Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2023, at 9:15 a.m. ET: The Atlantic Council will host a conversation with Prime Minister of Croatia Andrej Plenković, to discuss Croatia’s 2013 accession to the European Union, the war in Ukraine, Croatian foreign policy objectives, and lessons for Eastern Europe. The conversation will be moderated by Paula J. Dobriansky, vice chair of the Scowcroft Center for Strategy and Security at the Atlantic Council. Frederick Kempe, president and CEO of the Atlantic Council, will provide introductory remarks.

Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. ET: The Center for Strategic and International Studies will host a discussion between Gen. B. Chance Saltzman, chief of space operations at the U.S. Space Force, and Kari A. Bigen, director of the Aerospace Security Project and senior fellow in the international security program at CSIS, on the role of space in strategic competition, Space Force operations, and empowering thinking from next-generation guardians and scholars.

Thursday, Feb. 23, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. ET: The National Counterterrorism Innovation, Technology, and Education Center (NCITE) at the University of Nebraska at Omaha will host a panel discussion to examine terrorists’ use of memes to spread ideology and facilitate violence. Panelists include Oliver Goodman, project manager at Moonshot; Arthur Bradley, open source intelligence manager at Tech Against Terrorism; and Kat Parsons, research specialist at NCITE. 

Thursday, Feb. 23, 2023, at 6:30 p.m. ET: TheFreeman Spogli Institute for International Studies at Stanford University will host a seminar to examine public key cryptography and its significance. The seminar will feature remarks from Andrei Broder, distinguished scientist at Google; Susan Landau, professor of cybersecurity at The Fletcher School at Tufts University; and John Markoff, author and former New York Times journalist. Rebecca Slayton, associate professor at Cornell University, will moderate the panel.

Friday, Feb. 24, 2023, at 9:00 a.m. ET: The Brookings Institution will host a panel discussion, to examine lessons from the foreign policy transition from the Bush administration to the Obama administration. Panelists include: Condoleeza Rice, the 66th secretary of state;  Stephen Hadley, former assistant to the president for national security affairs; and Fiona Hill, senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. The panel will be moderated by David Ignatius, columnist at the Washington Post; and introductory remarks will be provided by Suzanne Maloney, vice president and director of the foreign policy program at Brookings.

Friday, Feb. 24, 2023, at 2:15 p.m. ET: The American Enterprise Institute (AEI) and the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) will host a discussion to examine the future of the war in Ukraine. The event will feature two panels, the first will feature remarks from ISW’s analytical team, about the current military situation and their forecast for the battlefield trajectory. Panelists include: George Barros, geospatial intelligence team lead and Russia analyst at ISW; Karolina Hird, Russia analyst and Evans Hanson fellow at ISW; and Kateryna Stepanenko, Russia analyst at ISW. The first panel will be moderated by Mason Clark, senior analyst and Russia team lead at ISW. The second panel will consider the prospects for change in Russia and Russian policy and for Western support to Ukraine. Panelists include: Leon Aron, senior fellow at AEI; Nataliya Bugayova, nonresident Russia fellow at ISW; Rob Portman, former U.S. senator (R.-Ohio); and Dalibor Rohac, senior fellow at AEI. The second panel will be moderated by Frederick W. Kagan, director of the critical threats project at AEI.
