On Dec. 6, five Oregon voters filed a lawsuit against Oregon Secretary of State Lavonne Griffin-Valade in Oregon Supreme Court seeking a writ of mandamus forcing her to disqualify former President Donald Trump from the Oregon 2024 primary and general election ballots under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment. The petitioners are represented by counsel for Free Speech For People, a national non-profit organization that has filed similar legal challenges to Trump’s candidacy in Minnesota and Michigan.

The filing argues the issue is currently ripe for adjudication and that the president is an “officer of the United States,”—two arguments that were rejected in similar petitions filed in other states.
