Trump Requests Court Delay Briefing Schedule in Jan. 6 Case

On Aug. 5, lawyers representing former President Donald Trump in the case related to the 2020 presidential election and the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol filed a motion requesting more time to respond to the Motion for Protective Order. The court had directed Trump to respond to the order by 5:00 p.m. on Aug. 7, but his defense team requested the court to extend the schedule to Aug. 10 and to set the matter down for oral argument, which could further delay the outcome.
In a response filed the same day, Special Counsel Jack Smith wrote that the “extension motion proposes unnecessary delay to normal order,” and recommended that the motion be denied.
